Castle Grounds and Trail

Under BIM FLAG (Fisheries Local Action Group) Funding we received a grant to landscape the Castle Grounds. We engaged with a local landscaper and came up with a plan that would make the Castle more inviting for locals to use. We decided that a path around the perimeter of the Castle would be a nice feature and designed some seating which would allow people to view the Castle. All works were overseen by an Archaeologist to ensure that nothing of historical importance was disturbed during the works.

We then received a grant under Town & Village Renewal to construct a trail, beginning at the Castle Grounds, going through a woodland area, to which we were kindly granted access and use by The Foley Family of Grange Ville House, and looping back up Sluice Lane and through the village to finish again in the Castle Grounds. The trail is a much used and very popular walk right in the heart of Fethard on Sea.

Through the Community Enhancement Programme we also received Funding for some seating in the Castle Grounds. We opted for recycled plastic picnic benches which are environmentally friendly and maintenance free.
